Strategy for Skype

Stratego is a two-player game on a board that is in the shape of a 10*10 square.

Each player has a fleet of pieces that represent officers and soldiers.

The object is either to search out and capture the opponent’s flag, or to take enough of the opponent’s pieces so that he can no longer make any moves.

Since the ranks of the opponent’s pieces are inconspicuous to the players, deception and discovery are the keys to the game.

INFO:

Performing games:

Usually one player is represented by red pieces (Pirates) and the other one by blue pieces (Wizards). The pieces are double-sided colored pieces so that each player can clearly discern their own pieces as well as their opponent’s pieces. Ranks are only printed on one side, and so are oriented so that players cannot determine the specific rank of an opponent’s piece.

Each turn, one of the players moves one piece. If that piece lands on a square occupied by an opponent’s piece, the identities are revealed. The weaker piece is taken off the board. If the attacking side was understrength, it is eliminated. If the attacker is stronger, he takes the defender’s square. If two pieces are of equal rank, then both pieces are removed. A piece may not move through a square which is occupied by an enemy piece, unless it is attacking.

The two central 2 2 blocks in the middle of the board are not allowed to be visited by any pieces belonging to either player at any point in the game. They take the form of lakes and are choke points, which make frontal assaults less direct. The goal is to capture the opponent’s flag, force them to surrender or defeat all of his pieces.
